Re: JUST PURCHASED A MITCHELL NC???

Chris, Happy to help. Thanks for the registration-you will be getting the certificate soon as a High quality print PDF. In the pictures from Seawood, there is a badge on the door on the opposite side from the film door. The side the motor is on. Next. There are two stops on the camera. The first lef...

Re: JUST PURCHASED A MITCHELL NC???

Chris, Congrats! You have done it! Yours is a complete unit. Is the motor door badged the same also? A bonus. The number behind the lens position is the number for the L base. No need to remove the camera from the base. Very few cameras have any numbers inside the L base housing which would require ...

Re: JUST PURCHASED A MITCHELL NC???

Chris, The sidefinder info was overlooked in the mix. Orson drove Tolland nuts by arbitrarily removing what is properly referred to as a "side finder" from the camera because it takes some time to setup the correct relationship and focus characteristics of the thing on a camera to match what is bein...

Re: JUST PURCHASED A MITCHELL NC???

Chris, I just had occasion to look up the last E-Bay listing for this camera dated Sept.21 and note that the listing that did not mention it being an NC. My experiences with the original listing ended over 6 months ago. Apparently the listing was changed sometime after that last effort. So, apologie...

Re: JUST PURCHASED A MITCHELL NC???

Chris, The Navy in particular purchased a number of cameras just before and right after our involvement in WW2. They are labeled that way on the sales sheets. My best guess is that these were used in high speed motion analysis of various weapons and systems. Possibly with multiple angles at the same...

Re: JUST PURCHASED A MITCHELL NC???

Chris, Why is this a duplicate? As we have already explained with data and pictures in the Seawood photos post above, this is simply not an NC. It is a very nice 1940 US Navy chronograph camera. It was misrepresented by the seller even when advised the listing was wrong. We own copies of the origina...

Re: Mitchell Beauty shots from Seawood Photo

Chris. Thanks for the info. Kudos for making the move to LA. I stayed in Ohio reinventing the wheel. The camera on the Scorpion dolly/Worrell is BNCR 104 one of the few bowtie spinning mirror Mitchell factory conversions. It was a Hollywood rental camera bought originally by Armistead as BNC 104 in ...

Re: Mitchell Beauty shots from Seawood Photo

Chris, Glad to he of help. I too was closed out of working with these cameras by time period and budget restrictions. I gravitated to video as a producer and moved into the Avid world really early. (Dancing pixels) Later, I found a few of these cameras in need of TLC. Being of a mechanical bent, I t...

Re: Mitchell Beauty shots from Seawood Photo

All of this does not go to negate that Navy chronograph camera 397 is not a worthy piece especially with all the high value accessories. It is just unfortunate that the camera was misrepresented - as original unmodified NC's are rare. Another factoid: NC's are taller than Standards with the faceplat...

As part of our registration process, we do have detail shots of all the cameras registered. Here is the comparison of the different camera movements:
