Re: Sam Dodge YouTube demo of 1922 Mitchell Standard #5
Mark, Hope you're still visiting. Two questions. First, what is the number on your 1931 camera? From the list I have been collating over the past 5 years, it would have to be between 336 and 400 to fit the curve. Would help to know. Also, it appears that the Standard continues to be made after that ...

Re: lenses
These are hard to find. The story goes, a few years ago, the Chinese discovered these old lenses -- the cells, easy and cheap to put into new mounts for modern cameras. The mounts and barrels in large quantities were tossed and probably melted down to become lawn furniture parts or some such. As har...

Re: Stiff Movement on Mitchell Standard (advice)
Mark, Thanks for the info on Standards having sleeves instead of bearings. Stand corrected on earlier statement as have heard it both ways in the past. Earlier, I estimated this camera #146 be from 1926 based on info I had available and presented in the post. Would be interested in an actual dating ...

Re: Stiff Movement on Mitchell Standard (advice)
On the missing flywheel.
Standard practice in converting for animation was to remove the flywheel because in single frame it might continue rotating and cause an extra frame or stutter. Elsewhere on the site an earlier post about Standards confirms this.

Re: Miniature Mitchell Cameras scaled up from photographs
These are Fantastic! Cannot wait to see what you post from the rest of your collection. Like most of us interested in this site, I have often harbored the fear of that dumpster pulling up to the door here in similar circumstances for the actual production gear I have managed to save and restore from...

Re: Stiff Movement on Mitchell Standard (advice)
There would have been a reasonable number of Mitchells in GB thru the years at the lots that represented the majors like the MGM lot. I recall an article from a few years ago that said Aardman had 8 or 10 Mitchells at one time. Certainly Rank would have had a brace of them. The FBO company I mention...

Re: Stiff Movement on Mitchell Standard (advice)
Large gear does look different but we have to remember that these were hand built. It has been suggested in many resources that individual cameras were entirely put together and machined by one person. I note that you have the dissolve timing adjustment as well as the controls for the floating iris ...

Re: Mitchell Standard serial numbers
Mark,
Not exactly on-topic anymore but whatthaheck. What say you: is that that odd lever contraption on the side to control the iris open/close?
Don't believe a standard issue feature. Be interesting to know what knobs controlled what. ED.

Re: Video Tour of 1929 Mitchell Standard #167
Interesting tour of a rare camera hanging in there. But, where in the world did the "Fox sisters" come from alluded to twice in the video? William Fox started his studio in 1914 which was taken over by Darryl Zanuck in 1935 to become 20th Century Fox. That's the history of the place. No sister(s) ev...
