More questions about my camera with pictures

Well here is the Camera
Anything you want to tell me is fine but my questions are
1. Can you tell me what some of the mysterious parts are called/are for?
2. I have a photo of the camera totally assembled but any advice about putting the pannivison thing on including a web source would be helpful.
3. Is there anything that came with the camera that I should sell separately or is totally obsolete. Would anyone actually want the tv monitor that I did not take a picture of?

I noticed that this model is not listed in the serial numbers, when was it made
Thanks again
Greg

Greg,

Nice package in what looks like very good condition. It was built in 1972. Basically you have 3 different setups.

Things you should keep with the camera as a live shooting setup would be the mags, possibly one of the power supplies that may fit the Fries motor in box 1, any one of the lenses (most would prefer the 20-250 zoom), all the attachments in the second box: The thing with the hand knob goes on the bottom of the camera- it is a follow focus, the lens gear aligns with the gear on the follow focus and the chrome doodad on the side connects to an external sidefinder to correct for parallax. The one marked Panavision is a mattebox/lens shade and goes on the front of the follow focus so it can swing away (it may only work with lenses 4/5.)
Please visit our registration tab and register this camera as it would be the first of this type.

The camera itself has a video camera attached to the viewfinder that may also have the proper connection to one of those power supplies in box 2.

Box 3 is a complete animation setup with foot control. Some people may have an interest as would be the case with the #3 more recent Norris animation setup if either are functional- they can be modified for other cameras.

Other than as mentioned, the box2 power supplies are not worth much.

All the lenses are BNCR mounts that will fit a number of other Mitchell and some modified cameras. The number 4and 5 lenses are 75mm and 35mm prime lenses and worth more than the camera each. I am envious.
Lenses 2 and 1 are interesting early zoom lenses and one has a motor but no control seen.

Hope that helps. Do not hesitate to contact for any other information.

ED.

Greg,

On further thought, could you send a straight-on picture of the lens mount with the cap removed?

Greg,

These cameras were often used for animation or special effects related shots, including high speed shots. If you do the registration on this site, they have available the Mitchell sales records and can tell you who first bought this camera from Mitchell. The zoom lenses are nice but nothing special. I bought one a few years ago with a BNCR lens mount for $1,500. People on eBay ask more but I’m not sure what they are selling for. Some dealers have $3,500 or more on them but I’m not certain if there are any differences. One of the zooms has what looks like a BNC mount (the one with the longer shaft behind the flange, the part that would go into the camera). The other 2 lenses, the Super Baltars are very good. The market fluctuates so I don’t know current prices. These are the later Blatars that are more desirable. I would recommend selling those separately and could be worth several thousand, each! You should check their condition; does the focus and iris ring turn smoothly (if not Don’t Force) and also check the clarity. Hold the lens over a piece of white paper and look through the back of it. Does the paper appear as white as it is, or is there some yellowing or color (which you don’t want). The camera is a great set, if someone needs one for animation or special effects, but as I said before there is not much of a market. Hope that helps and again consider finding out the original sales information.

Mark

Greg, one additional note, the one lens that I think is a baltar is marked R35. That is a different mount than a BNCR although looks similar.

Greg, sorry, the zoom I was referring to as a BNC Mount, I goofed, I was looking at the cover to the mount!

Greg,

Thanks for the registration.. It should show up in the listings soon. Your certificate should be sent to you within a few days.

Also, thanks for the front shot. It is definitely a standard BNCR lens mount. The Panavision and Technivision markings made it possible that the mount might have been a Panavision mount. Of course, the mirror shutter is covering the aperture which was the next question as to the format. Technivision was an economy widescreen format in Italy and was used for a number of spaghetti westerns and other European-based films. The frame size was half the vertical size of a normal 35mm frame. The format used both spherical and anamorphic style lenses. The company was bought by Panavision for its European outlet.

The silver shaft on the motor side of the camera should be easy enough to turn to rotate the mirror away from covering the aperture to see if it is two or 4 perf format.

Best,

ED.

Read Technovision for Technivision.

Greg,

just updating the registration files. Is there a chance you can send a hero shot and one of the inside film mechanism for the picture file?
