Do they look different?

These are just serial numbers.

Like all Mitchell cameras, there was a wide selection of motors available:
4 types of Synchronous motors including multi duty, interlock or straight synchronous in 96v-220v, AC/DC, single or 3 phase and 50hz or 60hz versions; A variable speed motor in either AC/DC or 110v 50 or 60 hz and a High speed motor for the prepared camera that was variable up to 128Fps.

There were a few 16(pro)HS conversions and purpose built cameras with motors capable of 400fps.

As a general rule, if it has a tachometer on it, it is variable and the voltage and HZ should be marked somewhere on the motor. The straight forward common synchronous motor will have a seperate starter relay box.

Check back in about a week to our camera serial number tab as we are in the process of adding a graph for 16 pros to give you a year your camera was produced. We would encourage you to also register your camera.

Thanks for the enquiry, hope this helps.

Ah, you are the person who bought the Hughes Tool Company camera! That was a good price! Cannot quite make out the serial number 190? Would be from early 1951.

hi,
yes and it is amazing.. i have taken it apart and cleaned each part and it looks fabulous. there are 6 lenses that are quite expensive and many cool accessories. the gear head between the tripod and the fluid head must have been made by Hughes Tool as there are no markings but it is so smooth.
i will be selling the gear head. have an offer for $450 already! will wait a while longer.

hi ed,
yes the serial number is 190. if you are interested in owning this when i am done, let me know your contact info. i am selling two or three lenses and will leave 4 on the turret. even the case is amazing for history. to have a camera owned by howard hughes is a part of history.
